Underneath Downtown Edmonton

I got to go on an unexpected adventure a couple weeks ago while taking photos of an office for Edmonton Spaces. It was kind of creepy, but not super creepy as I was escorted by two people… That I didn’t know… So, maybe it was kind of weird, but whatever. Anyways, I got to explore an old underground site that is currently vacant. It’s hidden directly under 104 Street and 102 Avenue. Some information follows the photos.

I don’t have a lot of background information on the underground area, but I do know it used to be a mall back in the 90s. Part of it is currently used as self storage, and the other part, where Fanny’s Fabrics used to be, is vacant. There are empty “offices” that border the hallway to the Fanny’s Fabrics space (which made me immediately think it could be an awesome co-working area someday) and bikes that were locked up on a bike rack.

I’m not entirely sure what the future holds for this vacant area, but definitely it is a super cool gem that I’m happy I got to see. I wish I would have taken more photos but I was scared we were locked down there and I just needed to get back to street level!

Next Thursday come back and see RED The Agency. Their office is literally in THREE spaces that are meant to be living spaces. Pretty neat.
